Barbara Stevens Adams embarked on her artistic journey while practicing as a psychotherapist in New Haven, Connecticut. After relocating to New Hampshire in 1990, she shifted her focus from watercolor and pastel impressionistic works to her current passion for abstract oil painting. A founding member and former president of the Pastel Society of New Hampshire, Barbara is a juried member of several art associations, with her work showcased in numerous juried exhibitions at local, national, and international levels. Her paintings are currently displayed in galleries across New Hampshire, St. Croix, and beyond.

While her art has often drawn inspiration from her "en plein air" painting excursions along the New England Coast and in the U.S. Virgin Islands, she now primarily concentrates on abstract oil painting. Although she has stepped away from her practice as a psychotherapist, Barbara remains committed to supporting health initiatives, the arts, and local non-profits, using her artwork to contribute to various causes. She resides and works in Portsmouth.
